A level results So, A-level results are out and they're continuing to make my grades look less exciting. I always find it hard to believe that it's simply that people are brighter, although it's very difficult to judge, to be fair...
But one thing that interested me about them is the breakdown by subject. For example, overall, 25% of results were an A or A*, but in maths, this is significantly higher, at around 40%. This sort of doesn't surprise me, since the best students take further maths too, and those expect to get an A or A* in normal maths. But surely that means that maths itself is too easy? At the very least, an A-level in maths can't really be compared to an A-level in physics or business studies. And if you consider that maths accounts for 10% of A levels, that is going to push up the average by a significant proportion.
It's also interesting when you look at futher maths, where nearly 60% of grades are A or A*. This is perhaps to be expected, since only those who are going to do well in it take it, but it's still an interesting insight into the relative values of A-levels. If there was an advanced physics or french literature course, would that get a similar skewing of grades? Indeed, is a futher maths A-level better or worse than a biology one?
I suppose the only point I'm making here is this blanket idea that all A-levels are equal is perhaps wrong, and not entirely just with the so-called mickey mouse subjects.

IE and IQ Apparently, IE users have a lower than average IQ. I'm not a fan of IQ tests as a whole, but what amused me particularly was the quote
"The report has sparked anger from IE supporters, who have threatened AptiQuant with legal action." "You say we're stupid? We'll sue!" Classic :)
edit: ok, it's apparenly a hoax, but I still like the reaction quote ;)

Round numbers Today I managed to spend exactly £100.00 in sainsburys.
And when I got back my car was on 66666 miles.
I always like the interesting numbers :)

Trivia I've been meaning to ask people for a while for some feedback on a website I've written - its a trivia quiz site (the URL is just temporary, I've still not really thought of a name yet). Any comments or criticism about the site would be welcome but please bear in mind it's very much a work in progress, in particular the main page! I'm also open to suggestions about changing things, including layout and quiz format, and I'd be interested to hear of any problems at all.

I've not posted for ages.... So, have a meme.
So, mrsneeze, your LiveJournal reveals…
You are… 13% unique (blame, for example, your interest in rosamund’s bower), 21% peculiar, 36% interesting, 21% normal and 10% herdlike (partly because you, like everyone else, enjoy tea). When it comes to friends you are popular. In terms of the way you relate to people, you are keen to please. Your writing style (based on a recent public entry) is conventional.
Your overall weirdness is: 41
(The average level of weirdness is: 28. You are weirder than 81% of other LJers.)
Find out what your weirdness level is!
I was particularly amused that my shameless self-promotion made me more weird.

NaNoWriMo Well, I've decided this year I'm actually going to do nanowrimo this year. Mostly because I think I can make a game out of the book I write, so I'm doing a choose your own adventure story. I'm 20 sections in already :) My username is mrsneeze if anyone wants to be my friend.

Bizarre phonecalls I had a call today from someone which went along the lines of:
Caller: I sold you a laptop a month or so ago. Me: Oh, yes. Caller: Is it ok? Me: Yes, it's ok. Caller: Right. Anyway I was wondering if you had a fishtank for sale. Me: A fishtank? Caller: Yes, I'm looking to get some fish and wondered if you had a fishtank. Me: Um... no, I don't really have a fishtank. Caller: OK, bye!
I thought you'd all want to know.

Life, etc It's been ages since I've actually posted anything on here about me. Of course, I know you're all dying to know what I'm up to. Life here is fairly quiet - I've been pootling along on a reasonable income from my games lately - not a huge amount, but enough that I can afford to eat and buy a sofa. I've not really written any great games lately, but I've got a fair bit of computer repair work, and I'm thinking about trying to write games for mobile phones - Android for a start, moving on perhaps to Nokia ones.
I've also started playing poker in the pub, which is fun (and I've actually won a game, too!) and boules. I even have my own boules. Im not sure if this is a good or bad thing.
Other than that, I'm off to infest next week. Is anyone going? It'd be nice to see people again - it's a bit quiet out here. And I've not had much in the way of holidays lately.
Anyway, that's a brief life update. I wish it was more exciting!

Pentrix + I've finally got around to releasing an update to Pentrix - you can play it here. I know at least some of you play the original version still :)
In other news... um... I can't really think of anything exciting. Oh well.

Google Gra! I usually quite like the quirky logo changes that google do, but why oh why did they decide to make one that makes sound? Thanks, now my home page spams me with really annoying noises.
The worst thing is that Google are, basically, impossible to contact directly so I can't even complain about it. Very annoying. Anyway, that means you lot get my rant instead.
